Why to use a menu?

A menu can be used to perform Scissors-setting, which could also be done on-fly directly on the Scissors-pad or Scissors-nib. Additionally some of the system settings could change the behaviour of the Scissors in order to adjust it to the particular user's preferences. This menu could also be used as additional visualisation of the actual scissors-mode and functions.

How to close scissors program?

Menu can be closed on the same way as it was opened - with right-mouse-click or clicking on the close button positioned in the center of the menu-title.

Section - Scissors modes

This section shows the current scissors mode, which is cutting or moving mode. The current or actual mode is indicated by the selection strip and by the graphics displayed on the left. During moving of mouse pointer into the non-selected menu-item, a displayed graphics shows the possible changes to the actual mode. Clicking on the corresponding menu item, changes the mode appropriate.

Section - Scissors cutting functions

This section is provided to show and to change the actual scissors-cutting function. Cutting functions are described in section Changing the scissors-nib cutting mode

Section - snapping modes

Snapping is a function, which suggests the possible bounds of the cutting-areas. When moving the scissors on display, the small cross is displayed when scissors is approaching to these detected bounds. In cutting mode, the cutting position is automatically adjusted to these bounds, when Snapping is set to active. If Snapping is set to "Snap info", this adjustments do not occurs automatically. When Snapping is OFF, no bounds are suggested. These modes are related to the rectangular or free-shaped cutting. If Auto-detection mode is set as scissors cutting function, the snapping is "automatically" set active.

System parameter section

First two menu-items within this section are adjustments of Scissors behaviour according to particular user preferences.

Primar y use
Menu shows five options to optimize scissors primary usage.

graphic

Changing the primary use, the Scissors behaviour is adjusted to use it more conveniently for Vidi creation or for Screen Capturing. See: Using the scissors for screen-capturing for more detailed explanation.

Five possible Scissors-behaviour modes can be set as primary:

graphic - Create Vidi
graphic - Capture screen
graphic - Save capture
graphic - Edit capture
graphic - Magnify capture

Cut-acknowledge button function is redefined according to the primary use.

-      Leave this option on: Create Vidi, if you intend to use scissors mainly for Vidi creation.
-      If you intent to use scissors mainly for screen capturing, set it to: Capture screen.
-      If you intent mainly to save screen-selection into a file, set it to: Save capture.
-      If you intent mainly to edit screen-selection, set it to: Edit capture.
-      If you intent mainly to edit screen-magnification set it to: Magnify capture.

Zooming

graphic

Zooming menu-section sets particular parameters, which are applied to screen-selection zooming respectively screen-magnifying.

Main menu item shows actual zoom level, which is applied for screen-selection and could be set between 10% and 1000%. Initial – default zoom level is 100% and this means – no zooming is performed upon screen-selection.

Example 1 – Zoom level is 100% and a part of the screen has been selected using the scissors:

graphic
The selected area appears within an area, which is transparently magnified without the zooming. Sliding the mouse-wheel upwards or downwards, selected area zoom-level can be fine adjusted to desired level interactively.

Example2 – Zoom level is 177% and the same part of the screen, as within the example 1, has been selected:

graphic
The selected area appears initially zoomed for zoom-level parameter. Sliding the mouse-wheel upwards or downwards, selected area zoom-level can be fine adjusted to desired level interactively for example on the 188%.

graphic
Menu on the selected area allows saving the tuned zoom-level as the default zoom level.

graphic
Click on the first menu item “Zoom Vidi” (“copy to”, “save to”...depending from primary use settings) allows editing initial menu level value.

graphic

Entered value can be acknowledged clicking the green button or cancelled with mouse click on the reed cancel button (respectively ENTER or ESC keys on the keyboard).  Sign within the loupe icon on the left side of menu represents if actual level is positive (+), negative (-) or is reset to original selection size (O)

Desired initial zoom level can further be enlarged or shrunk by 10% or set to its original value of 100%.

Select content versus Select viewport

An object could be zoomed on two different ways.

1.     Selected object and viewport are zoomed simultaneously – so you as user get more concentrated on the whole content of the selected and zoomed object. A ball in previous example has been enlarged together with the surrounding frame with selected
Select content parameter. This may be useful, when zooming graphics or screen objects.

graphic

2.    Selected object is enlarger, but the frame remains same initial size, which is drawn as a part of selection process. When using Select viewport parameter, a golf-ball gets resized within initially declared frame. This may be useful, when defining a part of your screen as a loupe to underlying textual information.

Refresh selection

This parameter when enabled causes the dynamic refresh (4 times per second) of selected area. If you are selecting for example a part of dynamic web site content, the selected content refreshes just like the underlying content.

After selecting an object, the selection can be moved – just like Vidi windows, in three modes. Regarding our golf-example:
1.    Absolute-ball and frame are moved simultaneously in desired direction
2.    Relative- ball remains on the tee, but the zooming frame moves around the ball
3.    On place- frame remains on place, but the ball moves to the desired direction

When refreshing changes, the mouse buttons functions swaps. As consequence, the default moving mode from user point of view changes accordingly to refreshing or no refreshing of the selected object. Advanced user, however, still can use second mouse button during dragging to switch refreshing temporarily for the time of moving ON without changing the menu parameter.

Orientation

graphic

Orientation is shown as sub-menu showing the direction of default scissors orientation when moving or cutting. One of four possible orientations can be set as default.
If scissors cutting function is set to rectangular cutting, additionally, a floating scissors orientation could be switched ON or OFF. If floating mode is ON, the cutting scissors turns automatically to the most appropriate direction.

Remark: Scissors is turning automatically to the most appropriate direction, when approaching the screen borders or screen corners.

Default hand

Default hand shows a submenu with choices for right or left handed usage of scissors.

graphic

Changing the default-hand-mode, the Scissors behaviour is adjusted for right-respectively left handed usage.

Freeform settings

graphic

Free and polygonal drawing

1.) Default freeform drawing mode is free drawn. The shape in this mode is formed from all points that mouse pointer visit on the screen during drawing.

2.) Alternate mode is Polygonal drawing mode. The shape is formed by the points, which has been acknowledged with second mouse button, when first button is pressed simultaneously.

It is possible to draw in polygonal, free drawing mode or a mixture of both simultaneously without changing the menu setting.
Dragging a mouse with both buttons pressed switches “on fly” (and temporarily -until both mouse buttons down) between drawing modes. If for example the menu drawing mode is polygonal, then both mouse buttons dragging draws in free mode. If menu drawing mode is free, then both mouse buttons dragging draws in polygonal drawing mode.

Curve precision, roundness and course

Default curve precision is 17 points, which means, the shape is formed by those points, which distance is at least 17 points to each other. Less points means more precise curve around selected object. Both parameters can be altered using the keyboard.

graphic
Default curve roundness is 4% and is the tension of the curve between approximation points in percent. When this parameter is set to 0, curve has no tension and shape is drawn as usual polygon.

Set curve Course Straight sets the curve roundness to 0 and Set curve Course Rounded sets the curve roundness to value defined with parameter Roundness.
